Congratulations to all our graduates!

Commencement is a big day for our graduates at 91ɬÂþ University, and family and friends are central to the experience. Visitors are encouraged to review the information below to help plan their visit to 91ɬÂþ University for our upcoming commencement ceremonies.

Each approved graduate is encouraged to attend our commencement ceremonies. Commencement is held semi-annually in May and November. Class photographs are taken prior to each ceremony.

Preparing for Graduation

Are You Ready to Graduate?

Before you go any further, check our Graduation page to be sure that you have met all of the criteria to be eligible to attend our Commencement Ceremonies. Eligibility for participation will be determined by:

  • Confirmed completion of the appropriate number and type of credits
  • Confirmation of payment of any outstanding balances, or evidence of enrollment in a payment plan leading to complete payment.

Graduation Application

Each student must apply for graduation by filling out the Graduation Application by Saturday, September 19, 2026, to participate in the November 2026 ceremony or by Sunday, November 1, 2026, to participate in a May 2027 ceremony.

The Graduation Application can be submitted electronically through myBU ().

Graduation Regalia

Students are responsible for bringing their regalia to the commencement ceremony. Please note that the University does not guarantee that back up regalia will be available for students who forget or lose their regalia. Students who do not have regalia will not be able to participate in the ceremony.

Undergraduate and graduate students participating in Commencement are responsible for ordering and bringing their own appropriate cap and gown through . Regalia is required to participate in the ceremony. ÌýPlease order early enough to receive and verify your regalia before Commencement. The deadline to order is October 29, 2026.

Diplomas

Diplomas are mailed approximately six to eight weeks after Commencement once all graduation requirements and financial clearance have been completed. If you complete remaining degree requirements after Commencement, email [email protected] so your graduation status can be verified, your degree conferred, and your diploma ordered. 91ɬÂþ University confers degrees, not majors; therefore, major information is not listed on diplomas. Students must have a clear balance with 91ɬÂþ University to receive their diploma or to request release of transcripts.

Graduation Fee

The graduation fee, if applicable, will be added to your student account. Any outstanding balance may be paid through the MyBU portal. Please contact 91ɬÂþ Central if you have questions about your account. Students with an outstanding balance must be approved by Student Accounts to participate in Commencement.

Commencement Information for Students

Graduation Regalia for the Ceremony

Wear mortar boards flat. Men should remove mortar boards during the Invocation and Benediction. Tasteful mortar-board decoration is permitted. Tassels are worn on the left side for graduate students, and will begin on the right side for undergraduate students. Undergraduate students will be instructed when to turn their tassels during the ceremony. Appropriate footwear is strongly encouraged because graduates will walk, stand, and navigate steps.

Processional

Graduates will process from the front of Lansdell Hall to Harman Chapel. The Faculty Marshal and Registration Services staff will lead graduates to their seats, followed by faculty and Commencement program participants.

Name Cards

Name cards will be distributed during lineup and used to announce each graduate. When it is your turn to cross the platform, hand your card to the Faculty Reader, who will announce your name and academic honors.

Stage Safety

Graduates should cross the stage safely and respectfully. Dancing, flips, or other actions that create a safety hazard are not permitted.

Latin Honors

Graduation with honors is determined by the cumulative grade point average earned at 91ɬÂþ University. To be eligible for honors, a student must have earned 30 credit hours of their coursework at 91ɬÂþ University.

Each graduate recognized for academic honors will be asked to stand.

  • Cum laude:Ìý 3.50 – Blue Cord
  • Magna cum laude:Ìý 3.75 – White Cord
  • Summa cum laude:Ìý 3.90 – Gold Cord

Students whose 91ɬÂþ cumulativeÌýgrade point averageÌýis greater than or equal to 3.50 but who have not earned 30 credit hours at 91ɬÂþ University will graduate “With Distinction.â€� A notation “Graduate with Distinctionâ€� will be added to the student’s diploma beneath the student’s name.

In addition, students who are members of the academic honors societies such as Alpha Chi, Kappa Pi, and Sigma Beta Delta will be recognized and asked to stand. Honor Society pins and medallions may be worn on your robe.

Arrival

Graduates must report to the front steps of Lansdell Hall wearing their regalia for instructions and the Class group photo prior to the ceremony. Details and exact times will be communicated to students via email.

Personal Items

Please leave your personal items with your families during the ceremony. The commencement staff will not be responsible for safeguarding your belongings.

Alumni Relations

The Alumni Relations Office would like to present you with your first alumni gift. Please visit the hospitality table on the 2nd floor of Lansdell Hall after the ceremony.

Commencement Information for Guests

Parking

Family and Guest parking will be available along the front entrance of campus (#6, 7, 11 on the Campus Map). The parking lot directly behind Shott Hall (#12 on Campus Map) will be reserved for graduates, faculty, staff, and volunteers.

Parking for those with limited mobility will be available near VanDyke Circle between Rish Hall (#2 on the Campus Map) and Harman Chapel (#1 on the Campus Map).

Tickets

Six (6) guest tickets will be issued to each graduate. Tickets will be available for pickup at 91ɬÂþ Central beginning Wednesday, November 18, through Friday, November 20.

After 3:30 p.m. on November 20, graduates may pick up their tickets at the ticket kiosk outside Lansdell Hall. Graduates must present a photo ID when picking up their tickets.

Livestream

Each Commencement will be live-streamed through the . This will be linked to our various social media accounts as we get closer to the date. The link will be shared through University communications and social media closer to the ceremony.

Photos

A campus photographer will be taking pictures throughout the ceremony. Family and friends are welcome to take photos after the ceremony on or near the stage area as well as outside around campus.

Guests must remain at their seats during the processional and recessional and may not approach the stage for photographs during the ceremony for safety reasons.
